This broad portfolio of yarn, fiber, fabric, and foam uses natural antimicrobial science to fight microbes on soft surfaces. Noble developed silver fiber technology to inhibit and eliminate the growth of microbes on soft surfaces. silver fiber products offer the best technology for lasting protection and sustainable solutions, from lifestyle to healthcare to wound care.
HOW DO MICROBES GET ON CLOTHING AND OTHER SOFT SURFACES?
Clothing, sheets and towels are in close contact with the microorganisms of the skin and those of the environment. This creates a warm and often moist environment next to the skin, which leads to the growth of bacteria. These microorganisms can lead to unpleasant odors, staining, fabric deterioration, and even physical irritation.
BENEFITS OF silver fiberPRODUCTS
• The world is full of microbes; preventing your clothing, footwear, bedding and towels from breeding them makes good sense.
• Less odor means more confidence. Humans can distinguish at least 1 trillion different odors.
• When your clothes don’t stink, you’re not self-conscious.
• Everyone has their own unique scent signature that is used to communicate information between humans.
• When your garments are bacteria free, odor on clothing does not overpower your own scent signature.
• Less bacteria and odor on clothing means less washing. You can get multiple wearings out of your garments with silver fiber technology, saving resources and time.
• When you do wash, you can use lower temperatures because the fabric is maintaining microbial cleanliness.
Where Can silver fiber Products Be Used?
The silver fiber Antimicrobial Advantage technology can be used everywhere—footwear, athletic clothing, sportswear, tailored clothing, denim, accessories, bedding, towels. There’s no limit!
Fabric Hygiene: What's Living On Your Clothing
In a study called Microbial Odor Profile of Polyester and Cotton Clothes after a Fitness Session, researchers investigated the microbial growth and odor development in cotton and synthetic clothing Fabrics on T-shirts collected from 26 healthy individuals after an intensive bicycle spinning session.
The figure at right represents 31 unique species found on the T-shirts. The isolates were classified into three bacterial phyla: Firmicutes, Antibacterial, and Proteobacteria.
As you can see, moisture and sweat create a perfect environment on clothing for microorganisms to flourish and generate the waste that creates odors, stains, and fabric deterioration. silver fiber technology resists microorganism growth on the product.
What Causes Odor?
It begins with sweat. Humans produce two kinds: eccrine and apocrine. Eccrine sweat is the watery, salty, and generally neutral smelling sweat that you secrete it all over your body.
Even when you are not working out, your body is still emitting moisture vapor. Apocrine sweat comes from glands and is a thick, oily fluid made up of fatty compounds. Like eccrine sweat, apocrine sweat doesn’t stink on its own either.
Your microbiome, which is made up of the microbes that live on your skin, love to eat the fatty, oily compounds in endocrine sweat. It’s actually the molecular waste from these microbes eating the sweat that leaves odor and stain.
silver fiber treated products are self-cleaning of microbes. When clothing and other daily-use fabrics like towels, bedding, and footwear are inhospitable to microbes, the fabric won’t carry the smells associated with those odor- causing bacteria.
Silver fiber LEVELS OF TREATMENT
Three levels treatment in our portfolio, from consumer to healthcare to wound care.
Metalized
In the metalized form of our silver fiberproducts, 99.9% pure silver is permanently bonded to the surface of fiber, filament, fabric, or foam.
Extruded
In the extruded form of our silver fiberproducts, charged silver ions are permanently embedded into the fiber or filament.
Topical
Two versions of topical silver fibertechnology, a positively charged silver-based formula, and a newly developed citric-based treatments. Both are added to the fabric at the fnishing stage.
HOW silver fiber BOTANICAL WORKS
This proprietary citric-based formula changes the pH value on the fabric. The combination of Citric Acid, silver fiberingredients, and Oxygen inhibits the growth of bacteria and disrupts cell division and replication processes, leaving the fabric clean of microbes. silver fiber Botanical is only available in topical form at the moment.
The application and science of citric acid is widespread and has been integrated into numerous products across a broad range of industries: food, medicine, cosmetics, soaps, detergents, and more.
BENEFITS
• Revolutionary plant-based antimicrobial technology
• Tested and proven, EPA registered
• Renewably sourced: made from citric acid
• Fights microbes that accumulate on fabric
• Eliminates odor-causing bacteria on fabric
• Fewer washes to conserve energy, water, and natural resources
• Reduces fabric degradation over time
• Naturally self-cleaning botanical antimicrobial – 50x wash durability rating
HOW silver fiber MINERAL WORKS
The primary mechanism of action behind this silver fibertechnology is the release of silver ions from the yarn, fiber, fabric, or foam. When you incorporate silver fibertechnology into products, ion release in the presence of moisture (such as moisture vapor naturally emitted by the skin) combats negatively charged ions. This action helps inhibit and eliminate microbes on the surface of the product, protecting it from microbial impacts. silver fiberMineral is available in all three treatments; Metalized, Extruded and Topical.
• High purity silver antimicrobial technology
• Self-cleaning, continuous, sustained release of silver ions without shedding of elemental silver
• Fights microbes that accumulate on fabric
• Eliminates odor-causing bacteria on fabric
• Fewer washes to conserve energy, water, and natural resources
• Reduces fabric degradation over time
• Tested and proven (EPA registered, BPR compliant, and OEKO – TEX Standard 100 certified)
• Responsibly sourced: made with ions found in water, land, and sea

Silver fiber Antimicrobial Advantage™ in Healthcare Fabrics
Heathcare + Medical Fabric Disclaimer
Products empowered by silver fiber technology inhibit the growth of microbes—even drug-resistant bacteria and viruses—on the surface of fabrics. We believe that cleaner hospitals are safer hospitals and that protecting soft surfaces is equally as important as hard surfaces. Our brand partners are making great strides in providing solutions.
Even before coronavirus changed the face of healthcare, Healthcare Associated Infections (HAIs) were widely acknowledged as one of the world’s leading healthcare challenges. Despite the measures taken and improvements made to manage the issue, the current costs associated with H AIs—both human and financial—are staggering. Annually, they kill more people than influenza and pneumonia, car accidents, and breast cancer. These infections can lead to significant morbidity and mortality, with tens of thousands of lives lost each year. Additionally, H AIs are estimated to cost billions of dollars annually.
Silver fiber Antimicrobial Advantage Offers a Permanent and Continuous Solution
silver fiber treated products is used in the healthcare market to provide clinical-quality antimicrobial performance. Manufacturers of advanced wound care products incorporate silver fibertechnology into various medical devices including advanced wound care treatments, dressings, medical socks, and orthopedic soft goods. To protect fabrics surrounding patients and staff in a healthcare environment and prevent the growth and cross-contamination of bacteria on the surface of fabrics, manufacturers of healthcare apparel and textiles incorporate silver fiber technology into soft surfaces like privacy curtains, scrubs, lab coats, patient apparel, and bedding.
Benefits of silver fiberAntimicrobial Advantage™for Infection Prevention Textiles
• No Behavior Modification by Staff or Patients Required
As the mechanism of action is inherent in the fabric, it is self-cleaning of microbes.

• Odor Protection
silver fibertechnology naturally eliminates odor, keeping apparel smelling fresher for comfort and confidence during long shifts.
Survival of Pathogens on Fabric
Bacteria have been shown to live on cotton and polyester fabrics for weeks, and even months. Laundering alone is not effective enough, as there is no residual protection against further contamination. Instead, soft surface protection must be addressed and recognized as part of a more complete infection protection protocol.
